Flood
Water wins every argument. Leave early.
During
- If told to leave, leave. Take the go bags.
- Never walk or drive through floodwater. 15 cm of moving water can knock you over and 30 cm can float a car.
- If trapped, go up, not into a closed attic. Call for help and be visible.
Before
- Find out now if your home is in a flood zone.
- Move valuables, documents and chemicals upstairs.
- Know how to switch off power and gas.
After
- Floodwater is sewage, fuel and sharp things. Gloves, boots, wash everything.
- Do not switch power back on until it has been checked.
- Photograph the damage before cleaning, for insurance.
- Throw away any food the water touched.
